Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide constructed from the tetrapeptide tuftsin extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro stabilising tail. The tail was added specifically to slow enzymatic degradation, making Selank a common case study in peptide stabilisation design.
Research reports modulation of GABA-A receptor subunit expression, altered monoamine turnover, and changes in brain-derived neurotrophic factor and enkephalin-degrading enzyme activity in rodent models. It does not appear to act as a direct high-affinity receptor agonist.

Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the lyophilized cake. Add sterile or bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner wall of the vial, then let the powder dissolve without agitation; swirl gently if needed. Do not shake or vortex — shear forces denature peptide secondary structure and cause foaming that traps material on the stopper.
As a sealed lyophilized powder the material is stable for extended periods at -20 °C when kept desiccated and protected from light. Once in solution, stability shortens considerably: aqueous stocks are normally held at 2-8 °C for short term work or aliquoted and frozen for longer storage.
