Research background

BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-residue sequence derived from a partial region of body protection compound, a protein isolated from gastric juice. It is one of the most widely cited peptides in experimental tissue-repair literature, largely because of its unusual stability in aqueous and acidic environments.

Mechanism of action

Preclinical reports associate the sequence with upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 and downstream activation of the VEGFR2-Akt-eNOS pathway, together with modulation of nitric oxide tone and focal adhesion kinase-paxillin signalling in fibroblast migration assays. No specific high-affinity receptor has been identified.

Areas of scientific investigation

  • Angiogenesis and endothelial tube-formation assays
  • Fibroblast migration and tendon-cell outgrowth models
  • Gastrointestinal mucosal integrity research
  • Nitric oxide system and vascular tone studies

Listed fields describe where this sequence appears in published in vitro and preclinical literature. They are not indications, applications, or claims of effect.

Laboratory handling

Reconstitution

Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation on the lyophilized cake. Add sterile or bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner wall of the vial, then let the powder dissolve without agitation; swirl gently if needed. Do not shake or vortex — shear forces denature peptide secondary structure and cause foaming that traps material on the stopper.

Stability

Notably robust in solution relative to comparable short peptides; literature reports retained integrity in aqueous media across a wide pH range, which is why it is often selected for gastric-environment models.

Packaging

Single sequence per vial, sealed under inert gas in USP Type I borosilicate glass with a butyl rubber stopper and crimped aluminium overseal. Each vial carries a printed PRIMEGEN LABS label with product name, strength, lot number, manufacture and retest dates, storage temperature and a QR code linking to the lot record. Vials ship in a rigid foam insert inside a protective mailer at ambient temperature.
